Why Sydney should be a top destination for food.

“Some of the best Asian food we’ve ever had was found in Sydney.”
One of the best parts about traveling to Sydney wasn’t what you would expect. Yes, we loved Bondi Beach and getting drinks by the Opera House, but what we loved most was finding the secret food spots that only the locals know about. We were fortunate that a friend of Peter’s from high school now lives in Sydney, so our first night there she took us to the Night Noodle Market. The Night Noodle Market is basically a festival in a park near downtown, in which a bunch of vendors sell a variety of Asian cuisine. We shared delicious noodles, roti, and deserts whose name we couldn’t pronounce. The second night in Sydney, we stumbled into Spice Alley. Our Airbnb host, Bob, had mentioned this unique spot the night before, and we found it completely by accident. There were probably a dozen vendors crammed into this alleyway, and maybe fifty people eating there. Like the Night Noodle Market, the food was a wide variety of authentic Asian cuisine, but unlike the Market, these vendors have a permanent location here. The atmosphere was outstanding, but what made it so amazing was the feeling that Spice Alley is a secret that only a select handful are privy to. As a side note, we found ourselves eating a lot of Asian food. This is because there are a higher number of Asian immigrants in Australia than there are in the Midwest, we guess because of the proximity. Some of the best Asian food we’ve ever had was found in Sydney.
